Publishing on Amazon KDP

Steps

1. Create a KDP account and finish the tax and payment details before your first book — nothing pays out without them.
2. Add a Kindle eBook: title, subtitle, series, description, keywords and categories.
3. Upload your manuscript and cover, then check every page in the online previewer.
4. Decide on KDP Select, choose territories and set your price.
5. Publish. The book goes through review before it appears in the store.
6. For print, add a paperback to the same title: pick the trim size and paper, upload the print PDF and the full wrap cover, and order a proof copy before you go live.

Watch out for

• One account covers Kindle and paperback. KDP Select makes the ebook exclusive for 90 days at a time; print is never exclusive.
• KDP Select makes the ebook exclusive to Amazon for 90 days at a time — no other store, and not through Draft2Digital either. Print is never exclusive.
• Hardcover needs at least 75 pages. A shorter book can be a paperback (from 24 pages) but not a KDP hardcover.
• The free KDP ISBN is for print through Amazon only. If you will also print through IngramSpark, use an ISBN you own.
